Kate Duniho took us for a nice hike at the Saguaro National Forest East | A very old saguaro cactus makes for a nice photo backdrop | But if you want to see the kids well, it’s the prickly pear in the front that has a better scale | Saguaros are the classic, but there are lots of barrel cactuses too | In the desert, there are just as many interesting things to stop and look at as anywhere else | We surprised this hare along the trail, and it stayed around long enough for a nice picture |
Kate and Flynn, walking along | Guinness skips, with Peapod keeping an eye on things | Adventurers with their tour guide | A view looking southeast down a small wash the trail crosses | A nice bunch of plants, including cholla, prickly pear, barrel cactus, creosote bush, and even some saguaro in the background | A nice-looking cholla |
At the site of the old copper mine, there’s a big saguaro where we took pictures | Now with Kate | Flynn using his Daddy as a perch to get a better view of the bird nest in that big saguaro | An immature cholla with fresh growth. The Rincon Mountains are in the background. | Debra carefully shades Innaias’s head, while leaving a small gap for him to look out | Flynn catches up |
This was a great spot for a nice hikers-in-motion photo…but everyone decided to stop and stand around instead | There must be something about picking up sand in the desert and letting it slowly flow through your fingers | Checking out the rock | Coming back down into the small wash we crossed earlier | A photo of the photo | Apparently we didn’t walk out far enough to wear the kids out |
